| Thank You For Being a Friend |

Bad news. My BFF from tv, Bea Arthur, has died. This is seriously sad news. I can't remember a time when The Golden Girls *wasn't* on the air, and I grew up watching All in the Family. Here's hoping the Bea/Dorothy is in the Wolfie's in the sky drinking an egg-cream with Estelle/Sofia. |

George Carlin is dead! :( He was absolutely one of my favorite comedian, along with Bill Hicks, Bill Maher, Margaret Cho, and Kathy Griffin. In honor of George Carlin, I'm posting one of my favorite sketches of his;
The longer you listen to this abortion debate, the more you hear the phrase "sanctity of life," "sanctity of life." You believe in it? Personally, I think it's a bunch of shit. I mean, life is sacred? Who said so? God? Hey, if you read history, you realize that God is one of the leading causes of death. And...
If you're pre-born, you're fine, if you're pre-schooled, your fucked. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers. Pro-life, these people aren't pro-life, they're killing doctors, what kind of pro-life is that? What, they'll do everything they can do save a fetus, but if it grows up to be a doctor they just might have to kill it? These quotes are from Back in Town from 1996. 1996. It's amazing how accurate they are, especially the last one, in light of Operation: Endless War. |

| A Very Sad Day |

Arthur C. Clarke is dead at 90. I have't actually read anything by him, but I used to watch this show he hosted, something like "Strange Journeys With Arthur C. Clarke." It was basically an examination of allegations of the supernatural from UFO's and crystal skulls to the powers of meditation and poltergeists. He kept to the skeptical while maintaining an open mind that we don't know everything about this universe. He taught me that there are many unexplained and wonderful things in this world, and that we don't need to have a supernatural creator to make this world wonderful, it already is. |

OmG, Heath Ledger is Dead!!!!! He died of a presumed OD of sleeping pills at 421 Broome St. in Soho. What kind of universe is it, where Amy Wino can smoke enough crack to down a bull elephant and live, while someone like Heath Ledger can die after a few too many sleeping pills? |

the bastard's dead! I'm not usually one to be happy when someone dies, even if it's someone I dislike. But, wheeeee! Jerry Fallwell's dead!!!!!!!! Excuse me while I dance. The only way that this could have been better is if he died while having sex with a transgendered, Filippion, Hilary Clinton impersonator wearing a Tinky-Winky head while snorting oxycontin made out of aborted fetuses off of the asses of gay hookers. |

| Remembering Kurt |
[Apr. 11th, 2007|12:20 pm] |
I found out that Kurt Vonnegut died when I first turned on the tv this morning. They were interviewing some reality-tv star/model about her book about modelling & the news of Kurt's death scrolled across the screen. It seemed ironic, that a model would get so much attention when the world has lost this great author. I only read two of his books--Slaughterhouse Five & Cat's Cradle. In my 12th grade AP english class, our teacher assigned a reading project where we had to read a book with one of our parents. I chose my mom & she let me choose the book. I made a list & out of the list we chose Slaughterhouse Five. Reading with my mom was a really enjoyable experience. I'm not sure we understood everything about the book but it was excellent to read. I read Cat's Cradle as a freshman in college after one of my roommates recomended it to me. I plan to reread both books and I definitely want to read his other books. Goodbye, Kurt. I'll definitely miss you. |

I can't believe that Steve Irwin is dead. I used to watch his show religiously when I was younger. I remember I was so happy when I found out that he had a baby. They seemed like such a happy family that I was jealous. He seemed like such a great guy that I would daydream that he was my dad & that I was with a Really Happy Family. Now I'm really sorry that he's gone, not just because he's one of my Fake Dads (My other Fake Dad is Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. My Fake Mom is Emma Thompson). Steve Irwin was such a strong voice for conservation & love of the environment & animals, he will be missed. |
